What Is Shot Blasting?

Shot blasting is the process of cleaning a surface using high compressive force carried by small shots. These shots are driven out by friction from the machine hose to the surface and the impactful strike of the balls results in surface cleansing. Different media or steel shots are selected for different surfaces.

For soft wooden surface, corn cobs or walnut mesh can give it a cleaning effect and polish. Harder surfaces can use glass beads and for peening, steel shots are required. Other applications include surface treatment, corrosion removal and paint preparation using grits.

Blasting is the techniques of removing dust, coating, polishing of different surfaces. There are many types of blasting process available according to the requirement like shot peening blasting. It puts small dents on the surface to give a finish where required and helps in wear resistance of the surface.
