What is shot peening? Shot Peening is mechanical cold metalworking process (i.e. in absence of heat).It is used to increase the compressive strength of a material. In this process, metal surface is bombarded with high speed small balls called shots to create plastic deformation on the surface. So basically we are transferring energy to the grains on the surface. These grains, when absorb the energy, move towards the recrystallization stage where they transform to more smaller grains and larger grain boundaries.
