Is shot peening and shot blasting process same?

We all like the shiny and brilliant look of the metal components used in various appliances, devices and equipment. The two most common methods used for metal finishing are shot peening and shot blasting and these produce different results given the different processes they use. This contradicts the common notion that both these methods are same and can be used interchangeably.
The method of shot peening is based on plasticity of the blasting process and is used to pound a piece of metal into a desired shape. It does not remove too much material and also minimizes dust production. This method is generally used for creating a perfect finish for a variety of metal based objects including different types of steel, cast iron and nonferrous alloys of aluminium, titanium and magnesium.
The method of shot blasting is based on an abrasive process which means that the chips the pieces of metal away for finishing. It is aimed at either cleaning a surface or preparing it for further treatment. Shot blasting is mostly used for castings, forgings and stampings to create a uniform surface texture. It can also be used for descaling, deburring and deflashing of surfaces in a wide variety of industries including marine, automotive, medical applications and mining. Mayflay Machinery (Huizhou) Co.,Ltd is one of the most recommended names for both these processes.
